In 2016, an unusually clever octopus named Inky escaped from a New Zealand aquarium by opening his tank, sliding across the floor, and squeezing through a drainpipe back into the ocean.
His adventure was captured in the book Inky’s Amazing Escape by Sy Montgomery.
On Saturday, February 28, Rodman Public Library invites patrons to become Inky in an escape room–style event where they will be given various clever clues and race against the clock to see if they can escape the aquarium.
Space is limited. Those who would like to take part can call the children’s department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223, to register a group of up to four participants, including children, teens and adults, for a 20-minute time slot between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The event is being held in conjunction with the 2026 One Book One Community program in which The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery is the selection.
