What's the difference between pi and pie?

One is a mathematical constant. The other is a delicious dessert that comes in many flavors.

Rodman Public Library will combine the two on March 14 with a special Pi(e) Day for teens.

Between 3 and 5 p.m. that day, teens ages 12-18, will have the opportunity to take part in several activities, including

  •        A blind taste-test of pie filling
  •        Rating their favorite pie
  •        A pie eating contest
  •        Making a polymer clay pie key chain
  •        Making a pi number chain bracelet

Pi, which is represented by the symbol for the Greek letter of the same name (?), is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159. Thus every March 14 (3.14), pi, a number which mathematicians have attempted to expand their understanding of for thousands of years, is celebrated.

The event is free, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library which will provide all food and materials for the event.

No registration is required.
