Fall is Fun Time For Children at RPL

Some of Rodman Public Library’s most popular children’s programs are returning this fall, including Wee Read, Storytime and Family Fun Night.

In addition, the Kids Book Club, Kids Gaming and Kids Crafting will continue to be held monthly and there will be a couple other fun special events thrown in the mix during the months of September, October, and November.

All children’s programs at RPL are supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library.

Here’s a look at Rodman Public Library’s fall programming for kids.

WEE READ

Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Rodman Public Library will host a Fall Wee Read session on Mondays and Wednesdays between September 12 and November 9.

During that time, Wee Read will be offered every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Children, ages birth through two years, and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend. Wee Read includes stories, fingerplays, music and movement. No registration is required. For more information, call the Main Library Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

 

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. between September 13 and November 8, parents or caregivers and their children, ages 3 to 12, are invited to participate in an entertaining and educational evening in Rodman Main Children’s Department as part of Family Fun Night.

There will be stories before participants break into small groups to visit various stations where they will play games, complete challenges and create crafts that will provide fun for all ages.

STORYTIME

Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Children, ages 3-5, and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend Storytime sessions this fall at Rodman Public Library.

Morning sessions will be held each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. between September 15 and November 10 at the Main Library. Evening Storytime sessions will be held each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. between September 13 and November 8 as part of Family Fun Nights at the Main Library.

Storytime sessions are intended to encourage lifelong readers through stories, music, movement and activities.

No registration is required.

BRANCH TAKE AND MAKES

The Branch Library continues to offer a take and make craft project each month.

Beginning on the first business day of each month, children can stop in and pick up a craft (while supplies last).

For October the craft is a Pumpkin Patch Magnetic Picture Frame.

KIDS BOOK CLUB

Rodman Public Library invites children, ages 8-12, to join the Kids Book Club, which meets on the third Wednesday of each month.

Led by Stacy Digianantonio, Kids Book Club meetings include a brief discussion of the book, a fun activity and a snack. Books are available for extended checkout.

Registration is required for each session.

KIDS CRAFTING

Kids Crafting is held monthly at Rodman Public Library.

Projects for the fall include:

KIDS GAMING

The first Wednesday of each month

Kids gaming sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month, including September 7, October 5, and November 2.

From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., children, ages 8-12, are treated to open play of video games, Minecraft, etc. on devices provided by the library. The next session is Wednesday, September 7.

Registration is not required for the free event.

FAMILY FALL MOVIE

With the planned release of Hocus Pocus 2 at the end of September, Rodman Public Library is getting into the Halloween spirit a little early this year.

The library will screen the original 1993 American fantasy comedy Hocus Pocus at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26 on the big screen in the Main Auditorium. The film follows three sisters who were executed in the 17th century for witchcraft and who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night.

Three of RPL’s librarians will be dressed like the Sanderson sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy in the film, and patrons are encouraged to wear their costumes as well to the family-friendly event.

The movie, which is rated PG and runs 96 minutes, is free to attend and popcorn will be provided by Friends of Rodman Public Library. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult companion.

PUMKIN PAINTING AT THE BRANCH

Area children are invited to a family pumpkin painting event at the Rodman Branch Library on Saturday, October 8. Children can visit the Branch Library on that day between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. to pick out a pumpkin and paint it during the make and take activity. The library will provide the pumpkins, paint and other decorations for the kids to use, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. For more information, call 330-821-1313.

 

CHILDREN’S HALLOWEEN PARTY

RPL’s annual Children’s Halloween Party will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The event will feature games, a craft, treats, stories, photos and tattoos.

Children are encouraged to wear their costumes, but are not required to dress up.

MY PARENT & ME PAINT NIGHT

Rodman Public Library will host a My Parent & Me Paint Night on Tuesday, November 15.

Children, ages 7-12, and their caregiver are invited to the Main Library at 5:00 p.m. and each will create a pumpkin painting on their two canvasses. All materials will be provided thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library.

Registration is required for both the child and their adult companion.

POKEMON PROGRAM

To mark the launch of the new video game Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Rodman Public Library will host an afternoon of Pokémon fun on Friday, November 18 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Attendees will not be playing the new video game, but will play other games and take part in other Pokémon-related activities.. STUFFED ANIMAL SLEEPOVER AT THE BRANCH

Calling all stuffed animal friends!

Do you need a getaway? Would you like to meet new friends?

If so, on Friday, November 18, your human can drop you off at The Branch Library at 4:00 p.m. for a sleepover. We will have check-in activities to complete and a story.

Stuffed animals will get to enjoy activities like cart races, movies, reading, and many more shenanigans throughout the night. Pictures will be posted on the library’s Facebook and Instagram pages so their humans can keep an eye on all the fun during the sleepover.

Humans can enjoy a light breakfast of doughnuts and juice when they pick up their stuffed animal friends on Saturday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m.
