Cardholders can access thousands of online magazines and comics

Having a card from Rodman Public Library is like having a subscription to hundreds of popular magazines.

That's because through the Rodman Library website, cardholders have access to more than 3,000 popular magazines, such as People, Us, Prevention, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, The New Yorker, The Economist, Woman’s World, Cosmopolitan, Crochet World, Taste of Home, Popular Science, and Guitar World, just to name a few. Many of the magazines are archived for as long as three years.

In addition, there are more than 2,800 comics from Disney, Marvel, IDW, Image, and Dark Horse available at your fingertips – everything from Spiderman to Dog Man, from Marvel 1602 to adaptations of the work of William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and other classic authors.

"Many of our users are already familiar with the Ohio Digital Library, and having access to a wide variety of magazines and comics really enhances this collection,” said Rodman Public Library Director Eric Taggart. “Perhaps the best feature of the magazine collection is that they are simultaneous use, so there is no holds list and no waiting."

Gaining access to the online materials is easy through the Rodman Public Library website (www.rodmanlibrary.com) by clicking on the Digital Downloads tab in the blue navigation bar and then Ohio Digital Library from the menu. On the Ohio Digital Library site, click on the Collections tab underneath the Ohio Digital Library logo. The magazines and comics are both listed under the first column labeled Special in the window that appears. The magazines are also listed in their own column by subject on the far right.

Cardholders can enter the number on the back of their Rodman Library card to gain access to the full collection of online comics and periodicals, some that are archived as long as three years. The card number should be entered in its entirety without any spaces. A PIN (personal identification number) will also be required. A patron’s PIN is usually the last four digits of the phone number on file with Rodman Public Library. Those needing help either logging in or needing a lookup of their PIN, should call 330-821-2665, ext. 217 for assistance.

Cardholders who use the Libby and Overdrive apps can also access the magazines and comics collection through those apps.

“No matter how they choose to read, we certainly wish all of our patrons the happiest of holiday seasons,” added Taggart.
