The Rodman Public Library Makerspace is ready to help Alliance area residents get creative.
To aid RPL patrons learn about the equipment and materials utilized in the Makerspace, librarian Mary Rose Bihler has planned some programs over the next couple of months that will allow users to become acquainted with everything the space has to offer.
Open to cardholders 12 and older, the May programs include a May the Fourth Maker Day on Saturday, May 3, and DIY Houseplant Papercrafts on Friday, May 16.
While utilizing the Makerspace normally includes a minimal fee for materials, the May Makerspace programs will be held free of charge, thanks to support from Friends of Rodman Library.
“We want patrons who are curious about the Makerspace to come in and learn about what we have to offer while taking part in these funs programs that revolve around a theme,” explained Bihler.
The May the Fourth Maker Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a first-come, first-served open house format. During the day, patrons can visit the Makerspace and create one Star Wars-themed item, including bags, buttons, mugs, and shirts. (Those planning on decorating a shirt must bring in their own shirt.)
No registration is required for the May the Fourth Maker Day.
During the DIY Houseplant Papercrafts program at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 16, those attending will learn to create and cut out designs with a Cricut machine, and create a free piece of art to take home. Crafters may bring in their own cardstock or use the library supplies for free.
