“Libraries Rock” is the theme of Rodman Public Library’s 2018 Adult, Teens, and Children’s Summer Reading Program that begins on Tuesday, May 29, and runs through Saturday, July 28. The adult program is open to ages 18 and older. Adults may sign up for Summer Reading at the front desk of the Main or Branch Libraries and Bookmobile. One check out transaction per day of any library material qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing. One gift card (purchased from Alliance area local businesses) will be awarded to the week’s winner. A new weekly drawing starts over every week. The weekly prizes are provided courtesy of the Friends of Rodman Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program for children and teens at Rodman Library will run concurrently with the adult program. There will be programs, prizes, hands-on creative opportunities and special events for both age groups. Participants of the children’s Summer Reading Program may sign up at the front desk of the Main Children’s Department, the Branch Library, or Bookmobile. Teens may sign up by going online at wandooreader.com/rodmanlibrary/2018-teen-summer-reading-program.
Children who read for 10 hours will earn a certificate and free book, as well as credit for their school. They will have free choice of the books, magazines, audiobooks, and ebooks (ex. Tumblebooks and Axis 360) they wish to read or listen to. Completing 12 hours reading will earn a bonus prize.
Teens, ages 12-18, who complete four hours per week of reading will get one entry into the Summer Reading Teen Grand Prize Drawing that will consist of two baskets, each containing assorted prizes. Only one basket may be claimed by a participant. There will also be weekly online challenge questions for teens. For each correctly answered challenge question, participants will get an additional entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. Twenty hours of completed reading will earn a prize of one book of the teen’s choice from selected books offered. Five additional hours will earn an extra themed prize.
The library will also offer special programs for adults, children and teens. Area families are invited to join the Children’s Department “Super Reader” program at the library this summer. During June and July, library cardholders may pick up a “Super Reader” card at the Main Library Children’s Desk, Branch or Bookmobile. For each children’s item (with the exception of DVDs, toys, or music CDs) checked out at any Rodman Library location, participants will receive one stamp on a star. Each completed card, with 50 stamps, may be turned in to the library for a chance to win that month’s drawing of $50.00 in paperback books. You may enter multiple times. Each month starts with a new card and partial cards may not be combined. All completed cards will be eligible for a Grand Prize Drawing of $100.00 in paperback books. Stamps may only be given at time of checkout. The library is not responsible for any lost cards. Winners will be notified by phone and must claim their prize within one month’s time.
Popular monthly adults’, children’s, and teens’ programs will continue throughout the summer. Book F.E.A.S.T. will return for eight Thursdays at noon, beginning May 31. Teens will enjoy special creative events during the summer months along with the regular teen monthly programs. Prizes and special events are sponsored by Friends of Rodman Public Library.
