The 2017 Summer Reading Program ends on Saturday, September 2.
“Build a Better World” is the theme of Rodman Public Library’s 2017 Adult Summer Reading Program that begins on Monday, June 5 and runs through Saturday, September 2. The program is open to adults ages 18 and older. Adults may sign up for Summer Reading at the front desk of the Main or Branch Libraries, or online at www.rodmanlibrary.com/srp. Sign up and begin filling out a Bingo card with the title and author to meet the challenge during the Summer Reading dates. Complete a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line and turn in your card to be entered into the weekly prize drawing. Every Tuesday, beginning June 13, a new winner will be drawn. Your card stays in for the next week’s drawing if you were not a winner. Participants are eligible to win the weekly prize only once during the summer. Complete all squares on the card and get entered in a Grand Prize Drawing. Online users are eligible for only one weekly entry after reading five books and the grand prize entry only after reading 24 books. There will be one Grand Prize Drawing for a tote bag containing a t-shirt, notepad, pen, and a Lowe’s gift card. Correctly answer a weekly challenge question online, and be entered into the weekly drawing to receive a tote bag filled with goodies. The Grand Prize is provided courtesy of the Friends of Rodman Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program for children and teens at Rodman Library will run concurrently with the adult program. There will be programs, prizes, hands-on creative opportunities and special events for both age groups. Participants of the children’s and teens’ “Build a Better World” Summer Reading Program will register and keep track of Summer Reading information online at www.rodmanlibrary.com/srp.
Children who read for 1,000 minutes will earn a certificate and free book, as well as credit for their school. They will have free choice of the books, magazines, and audiobooks they wish to read or listen to. Children can also earn reading time by using TumbleBook ebooks (see link at www.rodmanlibrary.com/kids), or by attending library programs. Completing 12 challenges will earn a bonus prize.
Teens, ages 12-18, who complete five hours per week of reading will get one entry into the Summer Reading Teen Grand Prize Drawing that will consist of two baskets, each containing assorted prizes. Teens will get to choose which basket entry they want for each five hours of reading, and may enter to win either basket. Only one basket may be claimed by a participant. There will also be weekly online challenge questions for teens. For each correctly answered challenge question, participants will be entered into a drawing to win a prize and an additional entry into the grand prize drawing.
The library will also offer special programs for adults, children and teens. Area families are invited to join the Children’s Department “Super Reader” program at the library this summer. Each month during June, July and August, library cardholders may pick up a “Super Reader” card at the Main Library Children’s Desk, Branch or Bookmobile. For each children’s item (with the exception of DVDs, videos, toys or music CDs) checked out at any Rodman Library location, participants will receive one stamp on a star. Each completed card, with 50 stamps, may be turned in to the library for a chance to win that month’s drawing of $50.00 in paperback books. You may enter multiple times. Each month starts with a new card and partial cards may not be combined. All completed cards will be eligible for a Grand Prize Drawing of $100.00 in paperback books. Stamps may only be given at time of checkout. The library is not responsible for any lost cards. Winners will be notified by phone and must claim their prize within one month’s time.
Popular monthly adults’, children’s, and teens’ programs will continue throughout the summer. Book F.E.A.S.T. will return for seven Thursdays from noon until 1:00 p.m., beginning June 8. Teens will enjoy special creative events during the summer months along with the regular teen monthly programs. Prizes and special events are sponsored by Friends of Rodman Public Library.
