Will Hillenbrand, noted children’s author and illustrator, will be speaking at Rodman Public Library in the Children’s Program Room. His works include over sixty books for young readers. In addition to his own self-illustrated titles, he has illustrated the works of writers and retellers including Verna Aardema, Judy Sierra, Margery Cuyler, Judith St. George, Phyllis Root, Jane Yolen, Karma Wilson, Maureen Wright, Daniel Pinkwater, Olivier Dunrea and Jane Hillenbrand.
Hillenbrand grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, the youngest of four boys. He always enjoyed drawing the stories that were told at his family’s barbershop, so after taking a class in picture book art while in art school he made the decision to go into children’s literature illustration.
He will be sharing his experience as a writer and illustrator. Children and their families will have the opportunity for questions and book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the time of the program. Hillenbrand will also be visiting Grades 1 and 2 at Parkway and Rockhill Elementary schools on Friday, April 21, prior to his visit at Rodman Library.
Hillenbrand resides with his wife, Jane, in Terrace Park, Ohio. The program is funded in part by Ross and Harriet Clem, Steve and Deborah Daskalov, and the Laura Jo Dalton Library Fund. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is needed. For more information, call the Main Library’s Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.
