Rodman Library’s computer classes continue in October and run through November. Classes will be held on October 9, 11, 16, 18, 22, 25, and 30. Hands-on classes are limited to nine (9) persons and a maximum of two (2) alternates. All classes start at 10 a.m., except where noted at 6:30 p.m., and last about one hour. Basic Computer: Learn the basics of the computer and common desktop elements including the power button, Start menu, windows, and files. There will be a short introduction on the functions of the mouse and keyboard. Class date is Tuesday, Oct. 9
Searching the Net: The focus will be on various search engines, and how to become a better Internet searcher. Prior experience with using the Internet is preferred but not necessary. Class date is Thursday, Oct. 11
Email Basics: Reading and sending emails, plus attaching and opening attached files are explained using a free email account from Google. The class is suited to those who do not currently have an email account and are interested in creating one. Prior experience with using the Internet is preferred. Class date is Thursday, Oct. 16
Google Drive: A free online alternative to Microsoft Office, Google Drive offers access to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more with free cloud storage. An active Google account is required. Please see a Reference Librarian if you need assistance setting up an account. Class date is Thursday, Oct. 18
iPad/iPhone Basics: This class will introduce you to some basic features on your iPad/iPhone and some popular apps to get you started. Learn how to download apps, close apps, change settings, and more. Please be sure your device is charged and you know your passwords. Class date is Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Computer Security Basics: This demonstration class will introduce you to basic cyber security. Learn tips and tricks on how to keep your device safe. Demonstration only. Class date is Thursday, Oct. 25
Cloud Computer: In the Cloud? What? Learn about four of the major electronic storage applications available through Apple, google, Microsoft, and Amazon. We will investigate some of the basic terminology, usage, and benefits to using these products on your electronic devices. Class date is Tuesday, Oct. 30
