January means it's time for teens to test out all of the Nerf gear they got for Christmas at Rodman Public Library. Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to attend the January Nerf Night from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5. Teens should start to assemble in the Main Library auditorium at 5:15 p.m. for the after-hours event. Participants may bring in their own Nerf weapons or use some provided by the library. The library will also provide Nerf darts.

Get on board The Polar Express! Children and their family are invited to join the staff of Rodman Library's Children's Department on a trip to the North Pole. The run will be offered four times, including at 5:00 OR 6:00 on Monday, Dec. 12, OR at 5:00 p.m. OR 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. "The Polar Express," written by Chris Van Allsburg, will be read and passengers should be prepared for surprises along the way. Pajamas are encouraged, but not required.

Rodman Public Library will provide the LEGOs, teens will provide the creativity on Thursday, December 8 during a LEGO building competition. Teens, ages 12-18, will work in teams of two to three members from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to create a winter/holiday-themed display using a variety of LEGOs provided by the library, including LEGO Mindstorms.

Fogle Author Robin Yocum, who has six works of fiction to his credit, will offer a writing workshop, giving information to help aspiring writers launch and finish a book. "Writing is an art, so there is no rigid formula for writing a book. Every saxophone player has their own style, but the basic fingering is pretty much the same. I'm going to teach them how I write. Essentially, I'm going to show them my basic fingering as it pertains to writing a novel.
