Activities!

Teen Movie Night - Tues., June 3, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Teen movies will be shown the first Tuesday of every month June through August in RPL’s Main Auditorium. Keep watching for movie selections.

Design-a-T-Shirt - Thurs., June 5, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Teens must bring their own blank T-shirts. There will be two types of designs for the shirts. The first process will involve using cutout shapes and bleach with the design being bleached into the shirt. The second process is called Sharpie Tie-Dye. The shirt will be colored on with multi-colored Sharpies. After coloring, rubbing alcohol will be used on the shirt to spread the color giving it a tie-dyed look. Teens interested in doing the bleach T’s will need dark shirts and those wanting to do the tie-dye will need lighter shirts. Teens are free to make both types of shirts.

Robotech - Mon.-Thurs., June 16-19, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Teens will learn some basic programming skills in this four day program. We will be building robots using the Lego Kinects kits. The robots will be programmed to complete certain tasks for each day. Teens will be working in teams during the entire event to accomplish their assigned mission.

Knock em’ Down - Tues., July 8, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Three stations will be set up. At Station One, teens will be making a vortex can-non out of boxes. The cannon will be filled with smoke and used to knock down special targets. Smoke is used for seeing the air being forced from the box. There will also be a demonstration of how to make a safe fog using chemicals. At Station Two, teens will be making catapults out of popsicle sticks. There will be a contest to see who can launch their projectile the farthest. At Station Three, teens will be making marshmallow shooters using plastic cups, balloons, and marshmallows.

Clay Crafts and More - Thurs., Aug. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Teens will be using polymer clay to make cool charms that can be used as jewelry to make bracelets or necklaces. The clay will be fired using the library’s oven so teens will have their projects to take home with them. We will also be using the heat of the oven to shrink used potato chip bags to make miniature versions - the bags can then be used as charms or as something fun to carry around.
