The funny and touching stories included in this book might spur a few trips down your own memory lane. In addition to the collection of family holiday experiences, there are recipes for everything from how to deal with turkey leftovers to a traditional eggnog concoction.
Eighty years of Christmas writings and cartoons are here in this entertaining collection. These touching and funny stories are divided into sections on the spirit of giving, Santa Claus, family and Christmas carols. Interspersed throughout are drawings and magazine covers from past holiday seasons.
Everyone is familiar with how Christmas is celebrated today throughout the country, but this book gives an interesting overview of how the holiday has grown and changed since colonial days. Common traditions are explained, such as the origins of Christmas trees and the modern Santa Claus.
This volume was the result of a request from Reminisce editors to have their readers share memories of old-time Christmases. They received so many, they decided to assemble them into a book. There are stories that cover a variety of holiday memories, such as food, school pageants, gifts, and sharing time with family. Photographs are featured predominately throughout. One entertaining section is "Look What Santa Brought!" with pictures of kids excited by what they opened from Santa on Christmas morning. |
