Decorating with Flea Market Finds

The summer months bring a variety of garage sale and flea market shopping opportunities. The following books give a wealth of ideas on how to use all the treasures that can be found.

The thrill of not knowing what may be found can be part of the appeal for those that visit flea markets. This book begins with a very informative section on how to shop at these venues. There is advice on what to wear, what to bring with you, and how to shop the different booths. Also included is a short guide on shopping for antiques online.

The rest of this volume is a beautifully photographed collection of different styles that can be created in a home using flea market purchases. The styles are divided into sections that focus on main rooms of the house. Within each section are step by step instructions for making new things using what has been bought at a market. Projects include making mirrors out of old frames and using old bowling balls to make a unique office desk.

A piece of furniture at a flea market may not look that appealing at first glance, but with a little creativity they can be transformed. This book shows how to paint these pieces to make them a perfect fit in any home.

A section of general instructions for different painting techniques and finishes is a helpful starting point. There are over forty projects featured with color photos and easy to follow instructions for recreating the same look.

Using sections based on color themes and decorating styles, this book gives more ideas on how to accent a home using flea market purchases. Personal advice and ideas from the author throughout the book provide an added touch. There are examples of room ideas using not only the flea market finds, but also purchases from dime stores or other discount locations. The result is a showcase of unique and beautiful designs that don’t require spending a fortune.
