Rodman Public Library opened in 1963. Since that date, the only renovations were one small addition to the children's room in 1972 and a new roof in 2002. Our 43-year old building received a much needed facelift beginning in September 2005 and concluding in April 2007 with a week-long celebration.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the Library's renovation.

Q. What was added?

A. A children's program room, a drive-up book return, a new public elevator that will allow complete accessibility to the Mezzanine collection, and a new computer classroom are the most obvious additions. Other changes include:

  • Additional parking and new traffic patterns
  • An additional stairway to the mezzanine
  • A new location for the Alliance Room, which houses local history and genealogy materials
  • New controls for air conditioning and heating
  • New windows for better energy efficiency
  • Asbestos abatement

A. The work was completed in phases:

  • Outside work on children's program room, drive-up book return, and public elevator

  • Phase 1: South mezzanine

  • Phase 2: North mezzanine

  • Phase 3: Bookmobile offices, library offices

  • Phase 4: Adult fiction, Reference Department; public computers

  • Phase 5: Adult circulation and audio-visual materials; Alliance Room will reopen

  • Phase 6: Technical Services and Systems

  • Phase 7: Children's Department

  • Phase 8: Auditorium and Board Room

  • Phase 9: Time to celebrate our new facility (April 13-20, 2007)
