Alliance Memory's 1,000th Picture

August 12, 2005

Taylorcraft dedication is the 1,000th photograph added to Alliance MemoryA man stands under the canopy of a large building. A large crowd is watching as the man holds a pair of scissors high in the air while the thin ribbon falls to the ground. The man is C. G. Taylor and the event is the dedication of a new $200,000 Taylorcraft Aviation Corporation addition that took place on February 5, 1941, following three days of festivities.

The picture of this event is the 1,000th photograph to be added to the Alliance Memory Collection, hosted by Rodman Public Library. The photograph is only one of approximately 400 Taylorcraft photos on the website, and there are approximately 200 more to be added.

Alliance Memory was launched in August, 2004, and was named an Exemplary Project for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). The project began with assistance by an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant, which was awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Those who would like to lend old photographs of Alliance history (including factories, photos of local businesses, Morgan Engineering, Glamorgan Castle, interviews, citizens, and other grand opening celebrations) can bring their items to Rodman Public Library for consideration. The photographs will be scanned and then returned safely. Please contact the library for more details. To view the entire Alliance Memory Collection, go to www.AllianceMemory.org
