Pedaling Parson to Visit

Local author Stan Purdum will visit Rodman Library on Monday, February 15, at 6:45 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium.

Long an avid bicycle tourist, Purdum has ridden several long-distance bike trips, including a cross-nation ride recounted in his book Roll Around Heaven All Day, and a trek on the length of US Route 62, from Niagara Falls, New York, to El Paso, Texas, the subject of his book Playing in Traffic. His newest bicycle book is Pedaling to Lunch, a guide to 20 bicycle rides in Northeast Ohio. Each route description includes detailed directions, points of interest along the way, and a place about halfway to stop for lunch.

Purdum works as a United Methodist Minister in Waynesburg, but makes his living as a writer and editor. He has worked in publishing since 1991, and in 2001 started doing freelance work. He lives with his wife, Jeanine, in North Canton, and has three grown children.

During the presentation, Purdum will explain how he came to write the book. As he talks about the routes in the book, he will explain how each route will unveil a historic site or scenery which would not be as enjoyable if traveling by car. Although Pedaling to Lunch is about cycling, it will also appeal to hikers, day-trippers, and armchair travelers alike.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the presentation. For more information contact the library at 330-821-2665, ext. 208.
