March Computer Classes

The spring 2010 edition of Rodman Library's popular computer classes continues in March. Offerings during the spring session include everything from turning on the computer for beginners to designing a web site for the most advanced computer user.

On Wednesday, March 3, Excel Basics will be held. Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel 2007, including how spreadsheets work, and how to enter data and formulas to calculate results.

Computer Basics will be held on Monday, March 8. Students in this class will learn the basics of using a computer, from properly turning the computer on and off and using a mouse, through what Windows is and how to move, open, and close windows. No experience is needed for this beginner's class.

Windows Basics will take place on Monday, March 15. Become familiar with Windows in this class, where you will learn about common desktop elements, what the Start Button and Control Panel can do, how to resize windows, and how to create a shortcut. Students must know how to use a mouse to attend.

A Blogging for Beginners class will take place on Tuesday, March 16. If you're not ready for a full-blown web site, a blog will get you and your message onto the web. Participants will set up a blog using Blogger. Experience with a word processor and use of the Internet is required.

Word Basics and Editing will be held on Wednesday, March 17. In this class, students will learn the basics of Microsoft Office 2007. This includes learning how to type, edit, copy/paste, format, save and print documents.

Internet Basics will take place on Monday, March 22. Learn the basics of the Internet, including terminology, navigation, browser options, and some sites of interest. Students must know how to use a mouse prior to attending this class.

The second in the series of Microsoft Word classes will take place on Wednesday, March 24. This class, called Formatting and Layouts, will teach students how to work with tables, bulleted lists, headers/footers, shading and graphics. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, or attendance at the Word:Basics and Editing class is required.

A Maintenance Basics class will be held on Monday, March 29. Consider this a flu shot for your computer. Learn the importance of backups, how to set a restore point in case of a problem, how to remove unused programs and clean up your computer, and how to keep your computer updated.

On Tuesday, March 30, join Rodman Library for a Genealogy Online class. Bring your genealogy searches with you and discover information available on Ancestry, Rootsweb, and other library databases. This is an informal class, where participants will be guided through their research. Students should be familiar with Internet Basics before attending.

The final class in March will take place on Wednesday, March 31. This PowerPoint Basics class will teach students how to create computerized slide shows and effective presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Students must know how to use a mouse and Windows to attend this class.

Each of these classes begin at 10:30 a.m. in the computer lab at the Main Library. Registration is required and will begin at 10 a.m. on the Monday of the week prior to the class. For more information, or to register, call 330-821-2665, and press "0".
