Dr. Charles McClaugherty, professor of biology at Mount Union College will present a book review of Plenty by Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon on Tuesday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at Rodman Public Library.
Plenty was the book chosen by the One Book One Community committee for this year. It is a non-fiction account of the authors’ experience of spending an entire year eating only those foods that were grown or produced within 100 miles of their home in British Columbia.
McClaugherty will review the book from both a literary and environmental perspective. He will also explore the implications of a 100 mile diet in Alliance.
A member of the Mount Union faculty since 1988, McClaugherty earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a master’s degree from the University of Virginia and a doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently the director of the Brumbaugh Center for Environmental Science and is a member of Alliance’s Green Task Force, Mount Union College’s Sustainability Committee and the Environmental Education Council of Ohio.
All are welcome. Whether you have read the book or are simply interested in the topic, please join us. This and all One Book One Community events are free and open to the public. The authors will be at Mount Union Theatre on Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. to further discuss their boo and will meet with classes at area high schools on the morning of Thursday, April 3.
