Alliance Yesterday, 1900-1950

Date:
Mon, 03/04/2013 - 7:00pm - 8:15pm

Dan Skivolocke, owner of Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, will return to Rodman Library to continue his pictorial history of Alliance with the second 50 years titled "Alliance Yesterday, 1900-1950" on Wednesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m., in Rodman Public Library’s main auditorium. Skivolocke began 21 years ago writing a weekly article for the Alliance Review called "We Were There" that eventually gave way to "Alliance Yesterday", a program about Alliance history he began presenting around 1992, with the help of the Alliance Historical Society.

His early programs were slide presentations consisting of about 70 slides. Today with computer technology and the internet, which allowed him to acquire many images from the Alliance Historical Society, his program consists of a PowerPoint presentation that is broken down into decades, along with a listing of all Alliance mayors and images of area schools and churches.

The Historical Society will also display photographs from its collection including Alliance buildings and people plus maps of the Alliance area. The program is free and open to the public.  No registration is needed. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext.101.
