SCIENCE HILL SCHOOL

Science Hill Historical Society was organized in 1957 for the purpose of preserving Science Hill School. Located at the southwest corner of Beeson Street and McCallum Avenue, this one-room school was in session continuously from 1884 to 1956, when the school was closed. Built circa 1870, the building was first located farther east on Beeson Street where Science Hill United Church of Christ now sits.

Restored in 1992, Science Hill School is now open to area teachers and school children as a "living" history classroom, with all day classes of reading, writing, recitations and 'rithmetic. Resident teacher, Charlene Boyce is available for the morning history lesson, and the regular teacher takes over, with the focus on early school days.
