The summer reading program is happening NOW!

Join us and Catch the Reading Bug!

The GIRLS ONLY Journey

Thursdays through August 7th in the Children's Programming Room

Each week will bring an afternoon of games, crafts and fun facilitated by Girl Scout Leaders Ja'Nira Towns and Nicole Thompson. Hands-on activities will help develop academic skills as well as focus on the theme of "courage, confidence and character."

No registration required. Attend as many weeks as you wish.

Summer Readers To Participate In Carnation Festival Kick-Off Parade

Join us in the parade!Children who are participating in the Rodman Public Library Summer Reading Club, "Catch the Reading Bug", are invited to walk with the Library van and staff in the Carnation Festival Kick-off Parade on Sunday, August 10th. Children signed up to walk in the parade will be given an insect transfer to take home and iron onto a t-shirt to wear in the parade (quantities limited). Headbands with antennae will be passed out at the parade. Meet at 12:45pm at the corner of Park and Main Street (look for the brown and tan Library van). All children must be accompanied in the parade by an adult. Children may ride in a stroller, wagon, bike or trike. You will need to make your own arrangements for pick up as the Library will not be providing transportation back to the beginning of the parade route. The parade route is south on Union from Main St. and west on Glamorgan ending at the High School. Please sign up by August 6th at the main library if you will be joining us. What Is a Bug?

Monday, August 18
Join Hallie Richards from the Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum's "Discover World" as she presents two programs with live insects. Grades K-3 will discover "What is a bug?" from 1:00-1:45 PM and grades 4-6 will discover "Bug behaviors and adaptations" from 2:00-2:45 PM.

Open Craft Mondays

Join us for eight weeks on Mondays from June 16 through August 4 from 10:30-12:00 in the Main Children's Department. Each week will be a new craft to construct from simple materials.

Rediscover Board Games Tuesday

Join us for eight weeks on Tuesdays from June 17 through August 5 from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Main Children's Department. We'll bring out such well-loved games as Sorry, SCRABBLE, Rack-o, Boggle and MORE.

Learn to Draw

Saturday, July 19
Local artist and comic book illustrator Sean McArdle will work with children in grades 4-6 (from 1:00-2:00 PM) to develop skills needed to create cartoon insects and with grades 7 and up (from 2:30-3:30 PM) to work on cartoon and manga design. Program at the Main Library on Broadway Street.

Mother Daughter Book Discussion Group

Meets once a month on a Thursday evening at the Alliance YWCA. For girls in middle school and high school along with an adult. Please call the Library for the next meeting date and book title.

Ages 0-5

Lapsit Program for Ages 2 and 3

Designed for child and an accompanying adult. Every Monday evening from 6:30-7:00 PM or Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:00 AM and 10:30-11:00 AM at the Main Library on Broadway Street. Experience age-appropriate books, music, and fingerplays. No registration required. Held in the Children's Program Room.

Storytime for Ages 4, 5, and 6

Choose our Tuesday evening session from 6:30-7:15 PM beginning July 1 through August 26 or the Thursday morning session from 10:00-10:45 AM beginning July 3 through August 28 at the Main Library on Broadway Street. Enjoy storybooks, songs, fingerplays, and occasional crafts and games. No registration required. Held in the Children's Program Room.
