Wild Gourmet

Date:
Mon, 09/10/2012 - 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Do you like things a little out of the ordinary to cook – or eat? Are you in sticker shock regarding the price of groceries or the charge for “ramps” or “fiddleheads”? Can you even find them in your supermarket? Do you know what they are? It won’t matter if you can’t find them in your supermarket, because you can find them yourself if you know where to look. The subject is wild food and there’s plenty available. In fact, most are considered weeds.

On Monday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m., Rodman Library welcomes Patty Rickard, a graduate of Mount Union College with a BS in Biology and Chemistry and nature interpretation courses at Purdue University. She will give a lively presentation on wild food, telling about what can be found, where and when, and some of the precautions to take when searching for wild edibles. A naturalist at the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center since 1993, Rickard will take a look at some good books on the topic of wild food, and if the weather cooperates, will take the group on a walk to see what edibles exist outside our doors.

The presentation will be held in the Main Auditorium of Rodman Public Library located at 215 E. Broadway St. in Alliance, OH. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 208.
