Fall computer classes begin in September
Beginning in September, Rodman Library will offer a series of computer classes which will run through November. Classes in September will be held Sept. 15, 16, and 17, then again on Sept. 20, 22, 23 and 24. Hands-on classes are limited to nine (9) persons and a maximum of two (2) alternates. All classes start at 10 a.m., except evening classes where noted at 6:30 p.m., and last about one hour. Registration is required and accepted by telephone or in person. Call 330-821-2665 to register.
Electronic Borrowing with the iPad: Borrowing eBooks through OverDrive or the Axis 360 collection, magazines using Zinio, and movies through hoopla digital will be demonstrated. Other useful apps and tips will also be discussed. Class date is Monday, September 15, at 6:30 p.m.
Windows Basics: Become familiar with Windows in this class as you learn the basics about the common desktop elements such as what the Start Button can do, how to resize windows, and how to create a shortcut. Prior experience with using a mouse is preferred. Class date is Tuesday, September 16
Surfing the Net Basics: Learn the basics of the Internet: terminology, navigation, browser options and some sites of interest. Prior experience with using a mouse is preferred. Class date is Wednesday, September 17
Tech Tutoring: Have a technology question you’ve been meaning to ask someone? Having problems downloading an app? Bring your device or tech questions to the main lobby between 9:30-10:30 a.m. Please be sure that your device is charged and that you know your password. A technology tutor will be available to answer your questions on September 20.
Social Media – Intro to Pinterest and Instagram: Pinterest is a tool that allows users to create virtual pinboards based on their interests. Learn how to create boards and pin photos that can be shared with friends or kept secret. Instagram is a photo sharing app that allows the user to edit their photo before posting it online. See a demonstration of the different things you can do with Instagram. An active account for Pinterest and Instagram is required to participate in this class. If you need assistance setting up an account, please see a Reference Librarian. Attendance at Surfing the Net or prior experience with using the Internet is preferred. Class date is Monday, September 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Word Basics and Editing: Become familiar with Word 2007 through an overview of this program and its functions. Learn the basics of word processing, how to copy and paste, cut and paste, insert date, time and page numbers, plus how to format a document and use templates. Attendance at Windows Basics or prior experience with Windows is preferred. Class date is Tuesday, September 23
Excel Basics: Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel 2007, how spreadsheets work, and how to enter data and formulas to calculate results. Prior experience with Microsoft Word or attendance at Word Basics and Editing is preferred. Class date is Wednesday, September 24
