SARTA’s Travel Trainers are coming to Rodman Main every other month to assist you with bus riding needs. This session is held on Thursday, July 23, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Computer Lab. SARTA Travel Training sessions are the place to have your questions answered. Receive a FREE 31-day bus pass to get you started. A photo ID is required to participate in this program and pre-registration by the Wednesday before is encouraged. The Alliance Historical Society will present a program in the auditorium of Rodman Library on April 27 at 7 p.m. The speaker will be W. John Gross, a retired FBI agent and retired Safety Service Director for the City of Alliance. He will talk about his experiences working with the FBI. Are you unsure about how to research you family’s history? Are you looking for new resources to investigate your family tree? The Alliance Genealogical Society with be holding a Genealogy Fair on Saturday, May 9th in the library auditorium from 1-4 p.m.
There will be sessions on using Rodman Library’s genealogy databases, sources that can be utilized at the Stark County District Library, county courthouses, and more. T.A.G.S will also be selling books from the Alliance, Stark County, and Columbiana County genealogical societies.
The branch library is starting a monthly book club that will meet on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 29. Revolutionary Road, by Richard Yates, is the book selection for discussion, along with comparison to the movie of the same title. The book and DVD are available at both main and branch libraries. The 2014 Fogle Author Series presents its second author, Thrity Umrigar, who will speak on the rescheduled date of Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2:00 p.m., in Rodman Main Auditorium. “Umrigar is an Indian American journalist, critic, and a bestselling author of the novels Bombay Time, The Space Between Us, "First Darling of the Morning", "If Today Be Sweet", The Weight of Heaven, and "The World We Found", whose books have been translated into over fifteen languages including French, German, Arabic, Dutch and Indonesian.
